Florian (9-3, 7-2 UFC) has been on a tear since his October 2006 decision loss to former lightweight titleholder Sean Sherk. He has won all four of his fights since, the latest a technical knockout victory over Joe Lauzon at UFC Fight Night 13 on April 2. The middleweight runner-up on the first season of "The Ultimate Fighter," Florian has been finished only once — by Diego Sanchez in 2005 — in 12 professional appearances. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, the 31-year-old has broadened his skill set under the direction of revered Muay Thai coach Mark DellaGrotte. Florian owns victories against reigning TKO lightweight champion Sam Stout, former Ring of Fire lightweight titleholder Alvin Robinson and the American Top Team's Din Thomas. "This is the fight I wanted because he's the other big lightweight in the UFC, and he is definitely at the top of the division," Florian told UFC.com. "It's going to be a back and forth, non-stop war. We are both aggressive, and Huerta is always in great shape. He's one of those guys who just hangs in there, so when you have the chance, you have to finish him." Having enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom, Huerta (20-1-1, 6-0 UFC) silenced many of his detractors in December when he submitted Clay Guida at "The Ultimate Fighter 6" finale in one of the more memorable bouts of 2007. He will enter his match with Florian on a 16-fight winning streak. Unbeaten in six trips to the Octagon, Huerta holds key wins against former Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Alberto Crane, World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight contender Leonard Garcia and International Fight League standout Brad Blackburn. The soon-to-be 25-year-old has delivered 10 of his 20 career victories by knockout or technical knockout. "I'm looking forward to fighting Florian," Huerta told UFC.com. "He is a technical fighter and comes in with a great game plan, but I have a game plan, too, so I think this is going to be a chess match, one where we both use all our MMA skills to stay in there."
