MIRI: A streetfight between two Indonesian workers in Bintulu town ended in their deaths in front of hundreds of horrified onlookers.

The duo, in their early 20s, died from the multiple stab wounds inflicted on each other.

The quarrel broke out after a drinking session in a coffeeshop on Wednesday night. They chased and attacked each other with sharp weapons.

Police were alerted but both men were already dead when they arrived at the scene. The police team could only prevent other Indonesians present from creating more trouble.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Sulaiman Abdul Razak said the fight was caused by a misunderstanding.

“They were with their respective group of friends at the coffeeshop. The others did not get involved. We are trying to find out where the dead men were from in Indonesia,'' he said, adding that police were also trying to contact their employers.

Supt Sulaiman said police had recorded statements from several Indonesians and other eye-witnesses.

In Kangar, an unidentified Indonesian man was found dead with several stab wounds at a construction site at the InRani Estate at 7.30 last night.

Kangar OCPD Supt Yusof Mohd Diah said police found a sharp weapon believed to have been used to stab the victim.

Supt Yusof said the man, who had just arrived from Ipoh, had gone to the site to look for a job but instead ended fighting with a relative, who accused him of sending SMS to his wife working as a maid in Hong Kong.
